Our Robotics kids have seriously been working to finish the robot, staying at school for hours and hours everyday! Props to you guys, and make sure to sleep really soundly after build season ends - which is very soon.
On the marketing front, an order for pants and buttons has been made to the School Board, and we’re awaiting confirmation on that! Ocala Eye (if you get a chance to go there, ask for the manager and thank him/her!) has agreed to pay the entire cost of our t-shirts. Mr. Egitto has been working hard to create awesome designs to make our team look rad.

This school year, Vanguard High School’s ambitious International Baccalaureate students, with the help of impressive sponsors such as NASA and JCPenney, have formed a FIRST Robotics team dubbed the InZombiacs. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization that hosts international competitions where teams build robots to compete head-to-head. The competitions are characterized by an atmosphere of ‘gracious professionalism.” Gracious Professionalismemphasizes treating team members and competitors with respect, offering support to anyone in need, and most importantly, leaving out unpleasant competitive behavior. The primary goal of FIRST is to inspire young people to explore interests in the field of science and technology. By challenging students to design and build a functioning robot from the ground up and by offering over 15 million dollars in scholarships each year to outstanding team members, FIRST presents unimaginable growth opportunities to our Vanguard students. One of the InZombiacs’ leaders, Christopher Rice, tells us that “being on the team has definitely impacted my career goals and made me want to focus more on engineering.”
In early January, after participating in the FIRST Robotics International Kick-off, the InZombiacs were given the green light to begin working on their Robot. Through ingenuity, intellect and perseverance (working long hours after school and over the weekend) the InZombiacs plan to have their Robot competition-ready for the March 2012 Rebound Rumble in Orlando, Florida.
